Sam Altman's schedule is stupid simple. The man who was the president of YC
The man who personally invested $250M in one startup.
The man who seeded companies like Dropbox, Reddit, Helion and many more.
The current CEO of OpenAI.
His schedule is stupid simple.
I've spent way too much time thinking about how to get more done in the day.
In this quick letter you'll get the breakdown of Sam's keys to getting more done.
Sam Altman's 3 Key Pillars
- Make sure to get important sh*t done
- Don't waste time on stupid sh*t
- Make lots of lists
Year List. What do you want to get done this year?
Month List. Get down to the month level.
Day List. What matters today? Does it matter in the long run?
One key I noticed from reading his blog article was:
Prioritize in a way that generates momentum
He'll write a list on paper every day.
He does this so that he can look at his list if he doesn't want to seem rude during a meeting.
Another reason he writes it is because it allows him to filter if what he's writing is still important or not.
He stars really important things
Altman's Nutrition Helpers
- Lift 1 hour 3x a week. Sam's tried a ton of different methods for fitness but has found that lifting heavy weights for 1 hour a week is the best way to feel good, and in his words "the best productivity hack".
- Espresso on wake. He mentions he tries to stick to 200MG of caffeine, but is okay having more.
- 15 hr fast. He will stave off eating until the latest point possible..
- Avoid Spicy Foods. Spicy food is hard to digest. (digestion is a big energy suck)
- Avoid sugar. Sugar slows you down.
Altman's Supplements
- Methyl b12
- Omega-3
- Iron
- Vitamin D-3

Altman's Travel Tricks

Altman's Work Style
- Couch with laptop
- Block first 4 hours of the day for no meetings
- He has a few 4k monitors on a fancy desk, but says he just ends up on the couch.
